digital scrapbooking freebies GIMPGimp is an image editing software much like Photoshop, but it is 100% free! It’s true – some good things in life really are free!

From the GIMP website:

GIMP is an acronym for GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed program for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring.
It has many capabilities. It can be used as a simple paint program, an expert quality photo retouching program, an online batch processing system, a mass production image renderer, an image format converter, etc.

GIMP is expandable and extensible. It is designed to be augmented with plug-ins and extensions to do just about anything. The advanced scripting interface allows everything from the simplest task to the most complex image manipulation procedures to be easily scripted.

Basically you can do pretty much anything in GIMP that you can do in Photoshop. I have used GIMP and I really love it – the interface is clean and customizable. There are tons of free tutorials, free brushes and free plugins that can be added to the software to do pretty much anything you can imagine. And the best part is you don’t have to give up your favorite Photoshop brushes because… GIMP works with Photoshop brushes!!! Excited yet!?

If you are in need of good (& free!) image software, I highly recommend this top notch freebie!!

I saw where you said, “You can do pretty much anything in GIMP that you can do in Photoshop,” but do you know if you can USE Photoshop files and actions in GIMP? And how about PSP files?

    Thanks!
